Fathers Day Festivities

I love giving gifts, it's a selfish thing really that makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.  Women are very easy to buy for and squeal and gush over something as small as a lipgloss from Dior.

Men on the other hand....are a different kettle of fish.  I have trawled through more gift websites then there are days in the week and I always end up with the two following options offered for "The Gentleman in your Life"

1- Sky Dive

2- A signed framed football jersey from Manchester United

If your dad is anything like mine he would respond to the above in the following fashion:

1- "If God wanted me to fly he would have given me wings.  You go, I'll watch."

2- "Man U, Man Who?!"

I love onesies.  They are my fail safe closet item when I have given up all hope in the typical "I have nothing to wear" situation.

However I think one has to be careful not to look like a grown up wearing a child's romper.  To avoid this situation make sure that the seam connecting the shorts/trousers to the top hits either just around your belly button or below, any higher and your in toddler territory.

Style Note: Unless you are going bob - sledding, Sanka style from Cool Runnings please steer clear of this:

My most loved item of clothing is a black short silk playsuit that I picked up in Oasis years ago for 10 Euros.  Sometimes people don't quite know how to approach them so look for them on the sale rail, it's one investment you wont regret.

Bertrand Mak Interview

I had the delight of interviewing Bertrand Mak today, the brainchild behind the 23 Carat Gold Collection for Rupert Sanderson, exclusive to Hong Kong.  He is a gent of the highest order, impeccably dressed, well spoken and has a great sense of humor.  The shoe line they collaborated on is fabulous and they have redesigned the famous "Hong Kong" shoe in complete 23 carat gold leaf, as well as adding gold heels and details to 9 other styles.  Here are some snippets from my interview with the man himself. 

Bertrand started off his career in luxury retail as a management trainee at Louis Vuitton, after this he went on to Christies.  He is currently collaborating with Rupert Sanderson in Hong Kong as they present the Gold Collection and is in the process of launching his own watch and leather goods range.  The watch he is wearing today played a key role in the collaboration between Rupert Sanderson and Bertrand.  On his way back from Switzerland to visit the watch maker who he was collaborating with, he stopped over in London with his girlfriend.  They stumbled across a magnificent shoe store where they purchased a few pairs of this fabulous designers shoes.  Once in Hong Kong Bertrand noticed that many people were admiring his partner's shoes.  He contacted Rupert Sanderson with the proposition of launching in Hong Kong and the rest as they say is history.

His own shoes, from Gaziano and Girling are quite aptly magnificent, he was sporting this style.

The style stakes in Hong Kong have suddenly gone up a notch.  Bertrand Mak has sophisticated cool down to a tee and he's going to let you gents have a piece of the pie very soon.

HK Designers and Bloggers at Electric Sekki Blue Period

A bit of grass caught my eye yesterday at the Electric Sekki Blue Period Preview for F/W 2012.  Grace Chan the founder of Glush (www.glush.co) was sporting a clutch with grass literally growing on it.  When I questioned her about the fabulous fashion find I found out that she makes and sells these cool bags on her website.  Take a look!

Electric Sekki goes Blue

The lovely Sam and Priscilla from Electric Sekki invited me to the preview of their Fall Winter 2012 yesterday.  The acclaimed show room has been voted as having one of the top Hong Kong office designs in Asia (see article here http://www.asiatatler.com/hong-kong/interiors/top-hong-kong-office-designs)

The showroom is one of the most innovative brand management companies I have ever come across.  It has a deep understanding of the retail market in Asia and a perfect mix of classic and contemporary looks for both women and men.  To put it in a nutshell; the company, products and employees are really inspirational.  Here is what greeted me at the Space.

The preview reignited my love for everything Sass & Bide, and made me look forward to cooler climates where I can embrace the leather styles at Stylestalker (available to purchase here www.stylestalker.com).  One half of the Stylestalker label Sue-Ann San was there and happily went through the collection with me.  Whoever said the fashion industry were cold and aloof has never met this girl, cool, very sweet and business savvy too.  The skirt and shorts from her line were my two favorites shown below.

My new favorite is No 21 by Alessandro Dell'Acqua and Twenty8Twelve.  The Miller sisters behind Twenty8Twelve have handed over the creative direction of the clothing to the talented Eryn Brinie.  The result is a more edgy take on the classic Twenty8Twelve style.  J'Adore.
